Kim Rafter’s “MTB Experience” began when she went to her first women’s clinic after her first few years on a mountain bike were spent surviving her way down trails with no skills. Learning bike handling skills made her realize that there is a lot more fun to be had when you have control over your bike! On top of that, riding with women inspired her to try new features on trails. When she saw other women going down something that scared her, she realized you don’t have to be a “crazy dude” to ride these features. This opened her up to a whole new world of technical riding, which is now what excites her most about mountain biking.
In 2017, Kim entered her first race at the Ashland Mountain Challenge enduro. She had a blast and decided to continue racing as a way to challenge herself, have fun, and meet new people with a shared passion for mountain biking. She partnered with Jeni in 2018 to form the MTB Experience race team.
Kim spends as much time as possible on her bike and loves exploring new terrain. Aside from that, she gets her nerd on by spending her downtime researching bike and part specs. You can find her in the MTB Experience forum, finding ways to share as much information with as many people as possible about events, products, and anything mtb related.
Kim continues to be inspired by women in all facets of mountain biking, from new riders to teammates to top pros to young shredders. We all have a place on the trail!
